Google Stats You Need to Know for Your Practice
Optometry and Google. If you think an online presence isn’t important for your practice, then you’ve only got one oar in the water. All independent practitioners need to absorb the numbers below and take online marketing extremely serious. I was recently invited to a private Google webinar and here were the major takeaways:

208,000,000 optometry related searches occur in one year.

67% of those searches are by a mobile phone.  

Mobile searches are growing by 88% year-over-year.

Here are the top 5 search categories:

Optometrist
Eye doctor 
Eye doctor near me
Optometrist near me
Eye exam near me

However, here are the top search categories by GROWING percentage:

1. Eye exam near me 84% 
2. Eye doctor near me 49% 
3. Eye doctor 31% 
4. Optometrist near me 18% 
5. Optometrist 16%

So here’s the skinny. People don’t want appointments now...they want them RIGHT NOW and AS CLOSE TO WHERE THEY LIVE AS POSSIBLE!!! It gets better.  
65% of the people searching for an eye doctor DID NOT have a doctor in mind. What’s more is they are only looking for ONE practice to call (actually 1.1, but whatever). So in other words, there’s not much comparing going on. They just want to make an appointment...and apparently faster than a knife fight in a phone booth. Within one week, 65% of those 65% searching made a decision on which doctor they will see.

She went into great depth and I won’t bore you with that stuff, but we have to take our online presence seriously. We must be open minded and act in order to surpass the huge corporations that compete with us.Invest in you and your practice! Your ROI in yourself and your practice will be much higher than putting your money in a low cost index fund. Believe me.
